What is Autoblock and how to use it to block websites automatically?

What is Autoblock?

Autoblock automatically blocks websites when you spend a specific amount of time on them. You set the time, and Otto takes care of the rest. If you visit a website on the Autoblock list, a countdown timer appears, giving you a heads-up. Once it hits zero, Otto works its magic and blocks the site.

Open Otto Extension:

  • Click on the Otto extension icon to open it.
  • Click on the block icon (it's the 3rd icon in the navigation menu).
  • Find and click on the "Autoblock" tab.

Adding a New Autoblock Rule:

Select Duration:

From the dropdown, choose the duration for Autoblock. You can set the duration starting from 1 min to 60 min.

Choose Website:

Pick the website you want to set a rule for. If it's not in the dropdown, no worries! You can add a new site, which will be explained below.

Create Condition:

The condition will look something like "If 1 min on twitter.com."

Click on the "Block" button to set the rule.

If Website Dropdown is Empty:

Click "New":

  • Type in the website (make sure it starts with "https://").

  • Click "Add+".

Back to Adding Rule:

Now, find your newly added site in the dropdown. Follow the previous steps to add it as a rule.

And there you have it! Autoblock is now set up and ready to keep you focused. If you ever need to tweak things, just revisit the Autoblock tab. Happy productivity!
